How do I know if I meet the technical requirements for Blackboard?

1. Check your Internet browser and its versions.

Internet Explorer version 5.5 or newer. (Otherwise, you will need to run the free update by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/). Internet Explorer for Macintosh is not compatible with all features of Blackboard. Netscape 7.1 (for both Windows and Macintosh computers). Here is the link to download Netscape: http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp Safari version 1.2 or newer. (If you are using an older version of Safari, you need to run the free update at the following link: http://www.apple.com/safari/download/). Most features of Blackboard are compatible with Safari, with the exception of Blackboard Blog and Wiki tools. Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or higher (for both Windows and Macintosh computers). All features of Blackboard are compatible with Firefox, with the exception of the default Blackboard Visual Textbox Editor or the so-called What You See, What You Get (WYSIWYG) text editor. Here is the link to download Mozilla Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ AOL The AOL and MSN browsers are not compatible with Blackboard. You can still use AOL/MSN to connect to Internet, and then you will need to download and install a different web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari, or Mozilla Firefox, to use Blackboard.

2. Enable and turn on Java (Sun Microsystems Inc. Java 1.5.0_06), Java Scripting (1.3), and Java Plugin (1.4+) on your browser.

3. Enable and turn on cookies on your browser.

4. Allow Pop-ups on your browser.

5. Check with your instructor if you will need plugins like Acrobat, Quicktime, PowerPoint Reader, Flash Player, Shockwave Player, Real Player, Windows Media Player, and etc.
