(NU) - If you take a look around the customer waiting area
of any auto repair shop, youre
likely to see just as many women
as men. According to the National Institute for Automotive Service
Excellence, women are becom-
ing a driving force in the service
and repair of todays vehicles. Since women are responsi- ble for making more automotive
repair decisions today, it is im-
portant that they take certain
steps to ensure that their repair
experience is a positive one,
said ASE President Ronald H.
Weiner. Therefore, ASE offers
these tips to help women find the
right repair shop and service
technician: Begin shopping for a repair shop before you need one. Ask friends and associates for their recommendations. Look for a neat, well-orga- nized facility with vehicles that
are equal in value to your own on
the parking lot and professional
technicians in the service bays. Start off with a minor job. If it is satisfactory, return with more
complicated repairs. Be prepared to describe your vehicles symptoms and supply a
written list of recent problems. Ask as many questions as you need to and request expla-
nations of terms and procedures.
Avoid establishments where you
feel ignored, patronized or
rushed. Dont rush the service writer or technician to make an on-the-
spot diagnosis. Before you leave, be sure you understand all shop policies
regarding labor rates, guarantees,
and methods of payment. For a free brochure with tips on how to take control of auto-

quality of automotive service and
repair through the voluntary test-
ing and certification of automo-
tive technicians. ASE-certified
technicians wear blue and white
ASE shoulder insignia and carry
credentials listing their areas of
certification. Their employers of-
ten display the blue and white
ASE sign. Tips to Help Women Find Quality Auto Care Services CONSUMER NewsUSA
